Community learning can take many forms and is guided mostly by users of the centre who have joined courses and make suggestions for new ones. Learning can be fun and fulfilling and adults accessing courses range in age from 19 to 92 so saying “I’m too old to learn” is no excuse here.
Many people join our courses to meet new people, to challenge their minds after retirement and also to gain more skills in order to get a better job. So whatever your reason for coming to learn – just give it a try, it may be the best choice you have ever made.
The Centre is fully committed to providing adult and family learning activities and has been previously funded by Family, Adult and Community Learning, URBAN II, Coalfields Regeneration Trust and Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities.
We have engaged over 300 adult learners onto courses, which have ranged from Maths and English to Bonsai for Beginners and Crime Scene Investigation and from Trampoline to Gentle Chair Based exercise. The range is endless and we are always looking for new suggestions for courses and groups. We are also a Learn Direct centre and offer a wide range of flexible learning packages including National Tests that can be taken in our newly equipped Computer Suite.
If you would like to join a course or activity or would like to make a suggestion for new courses then call 0191 5616726 today to speak to a member of staff who will give you details of available courses and welcome you to the Centre.
